Kid Rock is facing the consequences of his actions following his drunk expletive-fuelled rant about Oprah Winfrey, Joy Behar and Kathie Lee Gifford last week. As the outspoken personality just revealed, he will be closing the doors of his Detroit restaurant in the wake of the recent backlash.
As Kid Rock stated in a Facebook post this morning, he "will not be renewing [his] licensing agreement for [his] Made in Detroit Restaurant this April," a decision that comes in the wake of protests being scheduled at the restaurant by the National Action Network (an organization founded by Al Sharpton).
Ilitch Holdings group — the party that owns Little Caesar's Arena in Detroit where the restaurant is located — has issued at statement of its own.
"We have been in contact with Kid Rock," the statement reads. "He has voluntarily decided not to renew his licensing agreement for the Kid Rock's Made in Detroit restaurant which comes up for renewal in April. We are in the business of amazing and inspiring our fans and guests through an incredible array of world-class sporting and live entertainment events. As our venues are open, inviting, inclusive, and respectful to all, we look forward to bringing on an exciting new concept that aligns with our community and company values."
We can now add Al Sharpton to Rock's growing list of enemies, as the musician continues in his Facebook rant to call out the civil rights activist for being a "tax evading, race baiting clown."
Kid Rock writes: "I may be guilty of being a loud mouth jerk at times, but trying to label me racist is a joke, and actually only does a disservice to the black community, which I have supported my entire life, by trying to alienate myself and many others."
Last week, the musician was heard yelling "Fuck Oprah," multiple times while onstage at his Nashville bar the Big Ass Honky Tonk Rock N' Roll Steakhouse, later suggesting that she can "suck a dick sideways." He later clarified his statements in another Facebook rant. Rock has remained adamant since the first incident that none of his attacks were racially motivated.
