Pop icon Kelis has returned with "Midnight Snacks," a brand new single that she first teased at the end of September.
About the new song, and her penchant for writing about food's relationship to sex and love, Kelis said:
It's funny to me, but I like the fact that you can take sex and food, and you can put these two things together, and they're totally interchangeable. I love that. It isn't intentional, but the idea is just that food is a very carnal thing. Everyone can relate to it. It's very human, it's sensual, it's something that you crave. And it's sexy.
"Midnight Snacks" comes attached to a stylish, Adrienne Raquel-directed video. Check it out below.
Kelis has a long history of singing and writing about food, from her timeless "Milkshake," her 2003 record Tasty, and all the way up to her last record, 2014's Food, which included song titles like "Jerk Ribs," "Cobbler," and "Breakfast." She's also a chef in her own right, having released a cookbook, 2015's My Life on a Plate, as well as her own cooking show, Cooked with Cannabis, for Netflix.
No official word yet on whether a new album is on the way, but keep your fingers crossed.
