Last week, we reported that John Lennon's toilet was due to go up for action and that it was expected to sell for up to £1,000 (about $1,600 Canadian). Now, the toilet has been sold and, believe it or not, fetched over nine times its projected value.
The Guardian notes that the toilet went to unnamed buyer, who handed over £9,500 (about $15,500) for the porcelain bowl. The inflated price was likely the result of the extensive media coverage the item received.
According to action organizer Stephen Bailey, "It is unbelievable. We had bids coming in from all over the place." Talk about money going down the toilet.
The auction was part of Liverpool's 33rd annual Beatles Convention, and included items such as a mono copy of Lennon and Yoko Ono's Two Virgins, original concert tickets, Julian Lennon's harmonica, and other memorabilia items.
