James Blake has announced Playing Robots into Heaven, his sixth studio album and the follow-up to 2021's Friends That Break Your Heart. It's arriving September 8 via Republic, and alongside the album announcement, he's also shared lead single "Big Hammer" and announced a tour that'll see him stop in Montreal and Toronto.
Unlike his last few full-lengths, the Playing Robots into Heaven tracklist doesn't feature any guests. "Big Hammer" is a glitchy, spiralling instrumental club track featuring some chopped-up dancehall vocal samples — it's a different vibe from his last outing!
Blake's already kinda been aIl over the place this year — in the past few months, he's made a surprise guest appearance at Rolling Loud and helped soundtrack Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse. He also co-produced the Killer Mike/André 3000/Future posse cut "Scientists & Engineers."
He's not gonna be disappearing anytime soon, as he's announced a tour to accompany Playing Robots into Heaven, lining up a slew of European and North American tour dates for the fall that include Montreal and Toronto.
