Hatesphere

To The Nines

BY Denise FalzonPublished Apr 9, 2009

Denmark death thrashers HateSphere sound like a completely new band on their latest effort, To The Nines. But maybe that's because they are almost a completely new band, since main-main Peter Lyse Hansen became the only original member left after the release of their previous album. This sixth full-length from HateSphere contains the essence of thrash in the guitar work and the evilness of death metal in the vocals. To The Nines starts with pounding drumming on the title track and continues with fast thrash riffs, catchy melodies and intricate solos. "Clarity" is a memorable, riff-driven tune with intensely aggressive vocals, while "The Writing's on the Wall" has some of the album's most noteworthy guitar leads. The ten-song album is unrelentingly heavy and fast throughout, and with so many bands trying to recreate this music and lagging behind, HateSphere have not only been able to capture the sound of good modern thrash but have also kept the spirit of the genre.
