Vancouver pop singer Haley Blais just signed with Toronto-based label Arts & Crafts and released a new single "Matchmaker."
"Matchmaker," set to the background of a retro-sounding synth melody and simple percussion, is a song about how societal expectations can tarnish a relationship. "It's a love song about being so confident and safe in a relationship that you start to look for cracks out of fear," said Blais in a press release.
Blais, who's also known for her YouTube channel where she shares diary entries with millions of viewers, started writing and recording songs from her bedroom in 2014 before releasing her first full-length album Below the Salt in 2020. The single comes ahead of her second full-length album set to be released later this year and follows 2022 singles "Coolest Fucking Bitch in Town" and "Survivor's Guilt."
She will be playing limited shows this summer, with stops in Toronto with Georgia Harmer on June 4 and at Victoria, BC's Phillips Backyard Festival Series on July 9.
