Early 2021 Juno Awards Go to Arkells, the Weeknd, July Talk

Other winners so far also include Jessie Reyez, TOBi, Crown Lands, Kaytranada, Caribou, Leela Gilday and more

Tonight the Juno Awards ramped up their pre-ceremony festivities big time, announcing a huge pile of 2021 winners.

A virtual celebration hosted by Angeline Tetteh-Wayoe this evening saw a whopping 37 Juno Awards handed out to the 2021 nominees as part of the Junos' 50th anniversary.

Among tonight's many Juno Awards winners are the likes of the Weeknd (Contemporary R&B Recording of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Single of the Year), Arkells (Group of the Year), TOBi (Rap Recording of the Year), July Talk (Alternative Album of the Year), Crown Lands (Breakthrough Group of the Year), Jessie Reyez (Music Video of the Year), Kaytranada (Dance Recording of the Year), Caribou (Electronic Album of the Year), Rose Cousins (Contemporary Roots Album of the Year), Klô Pelgag (Album Artwork of the Year) and Leela Gilday (Indigenous Artist or Group of the Year), among others.

Tonight also found the Walt Grealis Special Achievement Award going to Pegi Cecconi and the MusiCounts Inspired Minds Ambassador Award being handed out to Gary Slaight. The Junos also announced they will be returning to Toronto again next year for the 2022 ceremony.

The 2021 Juno Awards will be broadcast nationwide on Sunday (June 6) from Toronto starting at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT through CBC TV, CBC Gem, CBC Radio One, globally at CBCMusic.ca/junos, and through CBC Music's TikTok, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter pages.

Performers are set to include the Tragically Hip with Feist, Justin Bieber, Jessie Reyez, William Prince and Serena Ryder, among others. There will also be tribute to mark 30 years of the Junos' Rap Record of the Year category that will bring together Kardinal Offishall, Jully Black, Maestro Fresh Wes, Haviah Mighty, Michie Mee and NAV.
