The Juno Awards will celebrate their 50th anniversary this May, and this year's nominees have just been announced.
Artists up for awards in 2021 include the Weeknd, Jessie Reyez, Justin Bieber, Savannah Ré, Arkells, TOBi, Half Moon Run, the Glorious Sons, Alanis Morissette, Shay Lia, Kaytranada, WondaGurl, Murda Beatz, Alessia Cara, JP Saxe, Crown Lands, Céline Dion, Leonard Cohen, NAV and Shawn Mendes.
The Weeknd leads the pack with six nominations total, including nods for Album of the Year, Single of the Year and Artist of the Year. Jessie Reyez, JP Saxe and Justin Bieber each follow closely behind with five nominations each.
Of course, we already knew that the ceremony would include the Tragically Hip receiving the 2021 Humanitarian Award for "humanitarian contributions [which] have positively enhanced the social fabric of Canada and beyond."
As previously reported, the Junos' 50th anniversary will also feature the introduction of three new statuette trophies for award winners, inspired by those awarded between 2000 and 2010 that were designed by Shirley Elford.
Beginning with this year's milestone ceremony, Juno Award winners will receive a gold version, while a silver version will be handed out to Special Award recipients. A gold and silver version will be awarded to Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductees.
The 50th annual JUNO Awards will take place May 16 in Toronto. The awards show will be broadcast nationwide through CBC TV, CBC Gem, CBC Radio One, CBC Music and globally at CBCMusic.ca/junos.
