A prior announcement promised that Daughn Gibson's new album Carnation would feature "ambient textures" and a "filmic" style. We can hear this in action on the newly unveiled "It Wants Everything."
The song has a slow, eerie mood that's somewhat akin to Nick Cave's classic "Red Right Hand." Gibson's baritone is rich and spooky as usual, and, following a moment of quiet calm in the midst of the arrangement, the song explodes into a crunchy, orchestral-tinged climax in the final minute or so.
Hear it below. Carnation is out on June 2 on Sub Pop.
