In an interview with Exclaim!, Cartel Madras said that Age of the Goonda, their first release since signing with Sub Pop, speaks to a certain type of Indian woman: one who is "loud, radical, somewhat aggressive and takes up a lot of fucking space." The Calgary-based duo fulfill this goal perfectly on this compact, rowdy effort.

Featuring fun, chest-thumping beats from Canadian producers like Calgary's Nevik and BC-based Skinny Local, the siblings, Contra and Eboshi, trade breakneck rhymes that will hold universal appeal for any trap fan. Standouts like "Lil Pump Type Beat" and "Goonda Gold" are party-starters, laced with call-and-response elements that will move crowds everywhere. But throughout the EP, the sisters throw in references that nod specifically to the loud, radical South Indian woman they seek to represent.

Age of the Goonda is representation done right: Cartel Madras centre their identity without marginalizing their listeners.
