Madras-born, Calgary-based rappers Contra and Eboshi Ramesh have been impressing audiences with their Cartel Madras project for the last year, and now they'll reach a much larger audience thanks to a record deal with Sub Pop.
The duo released their Trapistan mixtape last summer and are currently working on new music for the label. Until then, you can revisit their previously released video for "Pork & Leek" below, as well as all of Trapistan.
In a press release, Shabazz Palaces' Ishmael Butler said, "The energy and passion they bring combined with their superior rapping skills makes the Cartel a must hear and see. Excitement is the main ingredient of their magic. On record and on stage they glow under the spotlight. They're electric, totally tapped into the current. And c'mon two fly sisters spitting heat? Real rare... it's too good."
Before they announce new music, Cartel Madras have a series of Canadian festival dates in the works. Peep the itinerary below.
Tour dates:
06/21 Calgary, AB - Sled Island
07/12 Guelph, ON - Hillside
07/13 Ottawa, ON - Ottawa Bluesfest
08/17 Sudbury, ON - Up Here Fest
