Buck 65 Returns with 'Neverlove,' Books Canadian Tour

BY Alex HudsonPublished Jun 24, 2014

The last time Buck 65 released an album, he recruited a host of notable guests for 2010's 20 Odd Years. It's only natural, therefore, that the rapper — also known as Richard Terfry of CBC Radio 2's Drive — also got a fair amount of help in creating the follow-up. Neverlove is due out on September 30.

Producers who contributed to the album include Dean Nelson, Martin Troemm, Sunclef, Alias and DJ Mayonnaise. Broken Social Scene's Justin Peroff played drums on several songs, while nine of the 13 tracks feature female vocalists.

The album is said to follow in the tradition of divorce records like Bob Dylan's Blood on the Tracks and Marvin Gaye's Here, My Dear. Buck said in a statement, "Neverlove is about the heartbreak, confusion, anger and madness I experienced after losing a love I expected to last the rest of my life. Making this record is how I got through a terrible time in my life. I hope I never write another one like it."

At the bottom of this page, watch a video for the downcast breakup track "Only War," which features a melancholic chorus sung by Tiger Rosa.

The album is available to order on CD or double vinyl (with a bonus CD) right here. The first 200 pre-orders come with a signed CD booklet. Alternately, iTunes is offering a deluxe version with four extra tracks.
