Blind Guardian

Imaginations Through the Looking Glass

BY Laura Wiebe TaylorPublished Dec 1, 2004

Blind Guardian's first live DVD features an impressive presentation even before the package is opened, its outer sleeve bringing together images from the realm of fantasy and live metal event to suggest a correlation between the two. DVD one features two complete shows — 20 different tracks from 2003's "Blind Guardian Open Air Festival," recorded to capture as much of the audience's experience as possible. This means the audio component is less than pristine, sacrificing polish for vitality, an abundance of energy heightened by the often quick pace of visual cuts. DVD two offers the fan-oriented goodies: interviews, behind the scenes and backstage clips, photo gallery, and four additional live tracks from other shows. Imaginations has a "watch as it happens" feel, isn't overproduced and is bursting with the enthusiasm of the crowd. (Century Media, www.centurymedia.com)
