Young Rival frontman Aron D'Alesio is about to release a four-song cassette, but before the nostalgically formatted EP arrives, Exclaim! is giving you an early listen to the whole thing.

The tracks were narrowed down from a whopping set of 30 recordings, and showcase a side that's not always shown in his work with Young Rival. D'Alesio drew inspiration for the solo project from '50s surf rock, which can be heard in the laid-back, airy new offerings.

"Carousel" spins around in a lo-fi haze of minimalist guitar and drowsy vocals, while "A Long Time" is a charming, keyboard-driven psych-pop number. Next up, "Diamond Ring" brings a beachy jangle into the mix before closing out the set with the previously shared "Run."

D'Alesio will be playing in his hometown of Hamilton, ON, this Friday night (July 10) as part of the Dr. Disc Rooftop "Raise the Roof" series, as well as on July 24 as part of the Eternal Summer Festival. Before you head out to catch him live, though, give his new cassette a digital spin in the player below.
