Adam Sandler may be coming back to Canada soon on his North American tour, but it turns out he made an unlikely friend one of the last times he was here. Arkells bandleader Max Kerman has shared the story of his run-in with Sandler — describing how their shared love of basketball led to "Past Life" being featured in his latest movie.

Kerman posted a video to socials detailing the hangout as part of an ongoing Twitter X trend of people sharing their best celebrity encounters. He said that at a Dua Lipa show, he met Sandler's assistant — a huge Arkells fan — while the comedian was in Toronto shooting You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah

"She looked at me and she [went], 'Oh wait a second! You're a Jewish guy who likes basketball. You should come by set, and hang out with Adam,'" Kerman recalled. After watching Sandler direct for a while, they hung out for a bit, and two weeks later, Arkells got an email asking permission to use "Past Life" in the movie.

It turns out, the track was used in the most pivotal scene of the film. Spoilers ahead for those hoping to watch the pre-teen comedy: "Past Life" plays as Stacy (played by Sandler's daughter, Sunny Sandler) catches her BFF kissing her crush. Brutal!

"Adam Sandler, what a mensch," he says as he signs off. "Like, what a nice thing! It was him, he chose the song."

We guess we shouldn't be surprised if we see Sandler hanging out backstage at the At Your Service tour. Watch the video below.
