The Afghan Whigs

"Matamoros" (live on 'Letterman')

The Afghan Whigs debuted a new nine-person lineup back at Coachella in April and brought the same big-band dynamics to the small screen last night (June 4) on the Late Show with David Letterman, showcasing the tension-filled Do to the Beast track "Matamoros."

Lead gentleman Greg Dulli takes centre stage here, chipping out spy-rock-styled riffs on his six-string and uttering smoky lines about avoiding someone's poisoned kisses. Also crammed onto the stage are a pair of guitarists, a wildly bowing violinist, a bassist, two backup singers dipping into dance moves between lines, a drummer and, if you look real close, a percussionist whapping tambourines behind stacked amps.

The performance should give you a good idea of what it will be like to catch the band on their fall North American tour, which hits Vancouver, Montreal and Toronto. You'll find the show specifics over here.
