21 SavageDonald Glover and Stranger Things star Caleb McLaughlin have teamed up for a new film about the Atlanta artist's life and 2019 arrest by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

A trailer for American Dream: The 21 Savage Story — which is in part soundtracked by a new song from 21 Savage — finds McLaughlin and Glover portraying the rapper both pre- and post-stardom, including a scene in-studio where the artist settles on his stage name with the help of close collaborator Metro Boomin (played by Jabari Banks).

Additional stars in American Dream include Natasha Lyonne, comedian Druski, Gail Bean, Chad Lindberg, Victoria Pedretti and Young Mazino.

21 Savage's arrest by ICE in February 2019 revealed that he was born in the United Kingdom before moving to Atlanta, GA, at age 7. ICE claimed that the artist was in the US unlawfully following the July 2006 expiration of his non-immigrant visa, while his management revealed 21 Savage had filed for a new visa in 2017.

Last October, 21 Savage became a "lawful permanent resident" of the United States, with his first performance outside the US coming in Toronto as part of the final date on Drake's It's All a Blur tour of North America.

American Dream: The 21 Savage Story is directed by Stephen Glover, Jamal Olori, Fam Udeorji and Luis Perez. The film arrives in theatres July 4, while the trailer below teases a collection of "music inspired by the film" arriving January 12.
