Months after the end of its third season, Tuca & Bertie has been cancelled by Adult Swim.
News of the show's cancellation came this afternoon from creator Lisa Hanawalt, thanking fans for their support over the years in a note shared via social media.
Tuca & Bertie — which stars Tiffany Haddish and Ali Wong as bird BFFs — landed at Adult Swim in 2020 after it was cancelled by Netflix following its first season in 2019, despite critical acclaim.
The animated show's second season, and first for Adult Swim, aired last summer, while its third season concluded this past August.
"Working with Adult Swim was very creatively fulfilling, our execs were all smart and thoughtful, and I'm grateful that we got the space to make all these wild and heartfelt episodes about things that matter to me very much," Hanawalt wrote in thanking her coworkers and collaborators.
Hanawalt, who was also a producer of animated Netflix smash BoJack Horseman, made sure to note it was only goodbye "for now," explaining in her note, "I still have a beautiful and weird ending to T&B in mind, hopefully someday we'll get the chance to finish this story. In the meantime, I'm not done creating. I've witnessed so many people connecting with this show on a profound level, and I intend to keep telling stories like this, no matter what."
You can read Hanawalt's entire announcement below. She also urged American followers to "vote in the midterms and elect progressive congresspeople who can help fight huge corporate mergers and monopolies" — Adult Swim, of course, being owned by one such conglomerate.
