Organizers of Toronto's ImagineNative Film + Media Arts Festival have announced the postponement of their 2024 event.
Today, the organization revealed plans to move the festival marking their milestone 25th anniversary to June 2025. With its new dates, the normally fall-set event now coincides with Indigenous People's Month.
The next ImagineNative Film + Media Arts Festival will now run in-person from June 3 to 8 in Toronto next year, while its online component will now run June 9 to 15.
"Our goal at ImagineNative is to better serve our community and deliver a better festival every year," said Naomi Johnson, executive director of ImagineNative, in a statement. "From fresh programming ideas and themes to expanding our programming to outdoor events, the June 2025 date gives us more time to support our festival's growth."
Organizers share that in the lead-up to the 2025 event, programming will be announced to "help strengthen the organization and enhance the festival experience for creators and guests."
"A festival in June means we're in a month of increased awareness about Indigenous stories, allowing us to put our filmmakers front and centre," festival director Lindsay Monture adds. "We couldn't be more excited to see what organizations and talent ImagineNative gets the chance to elevate to a bigger audience in our 25th year."
