This year's Toronto International Film Festival wrapped up over the weekend, and while this year's festival has been extremely different from past editions, at least one thing remained consistent, as TIFF handed out prizes to the top films.
The TIFF 2020 People's Choice Award, worth $10,000, went to Chloé Zhao's Nomadland — a film that Exclaim! gave a perfect 10/10. The runners-up were Regina King's One Night in Miami in second place and Tracey Deer's Beans in third.
The TIFF 2020 People's Choice Documentary Award went to Michelle Latimer's Inconvenient Indian, which also won of three Amplify Voices Award for Best Canadian Feature Film (for BIPOC and Canadian filmmakers). That $10,000 prize also went to Chaitanya Tamhane's The Disciple and Philippe Lacôte's Night of the Kings.
The Shawn Mendes Foundation Changemaker Award went to Kelly Fyffe-Marshall's short Black Bodies. IMDbProShortCutsAwards was handed out to Naïla Guiguet's Dustin (Best Film), Paul Shkordoff's Benjamin, Benny, Ben (Best Candian Film) and Tiffany Hsiung's Sing Me a Lullaby (the Share Her Journey Award).
