It's been almost three years since it was announced that Austin Butler would be playing Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann's ELVIS, and today we get the first trailer for the long-in-the-making biopic.
The glitzy new trailer hits pretty much all the beats you'd expect, showing Elvis's childhood rock conversion in a Pentecostal church tent and his ascent to rock superstar and decency-disrupter. It includes appearances from Tom Hanks, who plays Presley's manager Colonel Tom Parker.
It also features our first glimpse of Austin Butler as Presley — it looks like he's got the moves and mannerisms down, though the makeup team might've gone a little ham on the eyeliner while trying to get those signature Elvis eyelashes. It's a bit Elvis by way of Hot Topic, but you can judge for yourself.
Gary Clark Jr. will also appear in the film as Delta blues singer-songwriter Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup, while Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Yola will play the role of rock 'n' roll pioneer Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Olivia DeJonge plays Priscilla Presley, and Kelvin Harrison Jr. and Alton Mason play B.B. King and Little Richard, respectively.
The film's production was put on hold back in 2020 after Hanks contracted COVID-19. It'll be arriving in theatres on June 24. Check out the trailer below.
