This weekend, boygenius members Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus went topless in an apparent display of solidarity with a women's rights movement.
Performing at Pukkelpop 2023 in Hasselt, Belgium, boygenius ended their Friday (August 18) performance with their EP song "Salt in the Wound." At the crescendo of the song, Bridgers ripped open her shirt to dance around the stage topless, then began dancing with bandmate Dacus, who had also ripped open her own shirt.
Fans on Reddit pointed out that this was possibly an act of solidarity with Spanish performers who have been going topless to defend women's rights and in protest against censorship. boygenus didn't directly explain their decision to go topless.
A couple days later, on Sunday (August 21), Phoebe went (mostly) topless again, this time by wearing a chain top when performing "Silk Chiffon" with MUNA at Gunnersbury Park in London, UK.
