In the months following the tragic death of beloved long-time Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek, plenty of interim hosts have stepped in to helm the trivia master's podium. From GOAT champion Ken Jennings to daytime TV villain Dr. Oz, the game show has had a wealth of personalities to draw from since new episodes began airing this year.
Fans have been yearning to get LeVar Burton on the show, even going as far as to launch a petition to have the Reading Rainbow/Star Trek icon join Jeopardy! in recent months. Now, they'll get their wish, because Burton is all set to host the series from July 26 to 30 this summer.
"THANK YOU... to all y'all for your passionate support!" Burton wrote in a statement. "I am overjoyed, excited, and eager to be guest-hosting Jeopardy!, and will do my utmost best to live up to your faith you in me. YOU MADE A DIFFERENCE! Go ahead and take my word for it, this time."
While some fans were gunning for a more permanent position for Burton, showrunners will now at least be able to test his quiz skills on-air prior to filling Trebek's role permanently in the future.
We already know Burton is on board to take over permanently if offered — he cosigned last year's Change.org petition to get him a full-time position. Though he may find some competition among Jeopardy!'s recent interim hosts, like Anderson Cooper, Katie Couric, Green Bay Packers Quarterback Aaron Rodgers, ABC's George Stephanopoulos and more.
