Lea Michele Trolls People Who Believe She Can't Read

She must think she's a 'Funny Girl'

Following her takeover as Fanny Brice in the Broadway production of Funny Girl, Lea Michele has reignited the widespread celebrity rumour that she cannot read by trolling conspiracy theorists on TikTok.

Taking a break from her Broadway role to recover from COVID-19, Michele has quelled her quarantine boredom by posting to her previously empty TikTok profile. In her second video, she addresses the conspiracy head-on. Using audio of Kim Kardashian saying "It's amazing, but the wait can you talk for a sec?" the video's text reads: "Calling Jonathan to read me the comments on my first TikTok." This likely refers to Michele's long-time friend and collaborator Jonathan Groff, who has slyly implied that he's in on the joke.

While the Glee star has acknowledged the illiteracy rumours before, this is the first time she's poked fun at them via her own channels. In a recent interview with The New York Times, she said, "I knew my lines every single day. And then there's a rumour online that I can't read or write? It's sad. It really is. I think often if I were a man, a lot of this wouldn't be the case." Interestingly, she did not specifically say whether or not she can really read, likely to bank it for trolling purposes.

Moreover, believers of this strange conspiracy have been proven wrong, as she has also read children's book Rosie Revere, Engineer for Storyline Online's Youtube channel (the comments section of which has unsurprisingly been turned off). As the video was posted about a month ago, some TikTokkers have suggested she read the story to show that she's in on the bit.

If Lea Michele is reading this β€” we're sorry for letting the cat out of the bag. Watch the proof that the actor can, in fact, read below.
