The nominees for the 92nd Academy Awards were announced this morning in Hollywood.
Unexpectedly leading the pack of this year's Oscar hopefuls is Joker with an impressive 11 nominations.
The awards show's biggest category, Best Picture, will be a fight between Ford v Ferrari, The Irishman, Jojo Rabbit, Joker, Little Women, Marriage Story, 1917, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Parasite.
The Best Director category is, much like the Golden Globes, devoid of any female nominees (despite Greta Gerwig's film, screenplay and actors landing nods for Little Women). It is a toss-up between Martin Scorsese, Todd Phillips, Sam Mendes, Quentin Tarantino and Bong Joon-ho.
In the acting categories, the Lead Actor nominees are Antonio Banderas (Pain and Glory), Leonardo DiCaprio (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood), Adam Driver (Marriage Story), Joaquin Phoenix (Joker) and Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes).
Supporting Actor is a race between Tom Hanks (A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood), Anthony Hopkins (The Two Popes), Al Pacino (The Irishman), Joe Pesci (The Irishman) an Brad Pitt (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood).
Lead Actress sees nominations for Cynthia Erivo (Harriet), Scarlett Johansson (Marriage Story), Saoirse Ronan (Little Women), Charlize Theron (Bombshell) and Renée Zellweger (Judy).
The list of Supporting Actress nominees is Kathy Bates (Richard Jewell), Laura Dern (Marriage Story), Scarlett Johansson (Jojo Rabbit), Florence Pugh (Little Women) and Margot Robbie (Bombshell).
The Oscars will be handed out on February 6 during a host-free ceremony.
