Rammstein's "Du Hast" is a clever play on the homophony of "du hasst" (which translates to "you hate") and "du hast" (meaning "you have"). Whichever meaning you interpret, it's about damn time you have a cover of the song from Lizzo — and you certainly won't hate it.
Earlier this week, the pop star jokingly sang a couple bars of the unofficial German National Anthem "Du Hast" to the delight of her audience in Hamburg. In Berlin — Rammstein's hometown — last night (February 28), she surprised fans by getting her whole band behind her for a full-length cover of the hard rock band's 1997 hit.
Lizzo posted a video of the live cover on Instagram, wherein she rocks a bedazzled lime-green Mugler bodysuit while egging on the crowd, chanting, "You better sing that shit!" after the first couple repetitions of the song's eponymous "Du, du hast / Du has mich" refrain.
"Y'all ready to go fucking crazy?" she asked, before counting down to bring in the pummelling chorus guitar riff. The infectiously energetic artist led by example, jumping, headbanging and, of course, twerking.
It's safe to say that Lizzo did Rammstein proud, with the band reposting the video on their Instagram Story. (It would have been cool if she'd whipped out the flute for that keyboard solo, though.)
