Amos the Kid — the off-kilter country project of Winnipeg troubadour Amos Nadlersmith — has finally detailed his debut full-length — one of our most anticipated Canadian albums of 2023. Furthermore, he has shared the title track and a handful of Canadian tour dates.
Enough as It Was arrives May 5 via House of Wonders. It features previously released single "I'll Set the Fire" and follows the singer-songwriter's Mountain View and No More New Ideas EPs. His tour plans for those were thwarted by the COVID-19 pandemic, so Amos the Kid will be embarking on his very first tour this May — with scheduled stops in Winnipeg, Regina, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver and Kelowna.
Like Nadlersmith's previous projects, Enough as It Was was produced, engineered and mixed by Adam Fuhr. The album also features contributions from Winnipeg scene royalty: Jensen Fridfinnson (Yes We Mystic), Boy Golden, JayWood, Brian Gluck and more.
"As a kid, my world was as large as 80 acres and a trip to the city a couple times a year," Nadlersmith said of the rollicking, grunge-inflected title track in a press release. "The idea of human loss felt real, but in the same way as a fear of something near-impossible, a one-in-a-million chance. I was lucky that way. And then unlucky in that way. This song is about loss and anger, about now living in a world filled with these things."
He continued, "Making this song sprung from one of those moments you always hope might happen. From conception to recording took mere hours. Adam and I were together working on some other demo, and this new idea came up and suddenly it was like, 'Damn, everyone better get down here right now, something special is happening.'"
Tickets for the tour go on sale Friday (March 24) at 10 a.m. local time.
