After wrapping up a long stretch of Canadian tour dates, including a performance at M for Montreal, WHOOP-Szo have announced plans for a North American tour in support of their 2019 record Warrior Down.
The tour includes numerous stops in Canada, as well as the U.S., with everything kicking off in Toronto on March 5. They'll make 33 stops along the way, heading all the way west to Victoria in early April, before making their way back to Ontario for their final show with ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead in Ottawa on April 25.
Alongside the tour announcement, the band have also shared a brand new video for their Warrior Down lead single "Amaruq."
Calling the video a "visual summation of the themes conveyed on Warrior Down," here's what songwriter/frontman Adam Sturgeon had to say about the new visuals:
It presents a vision of an Indigenous Future, one that defies being molded into the usual narrative of Indigenous identity. The 'Noble Indian' looks into the mirror of his past and/or present.
In a statement, video director Ross Millar said the song "has a lot of energy, and it immediately gave us the impression that there was an adventurous story to be told visually. The challenge with miniatures is making small characters, structures and landscapes appear much bigger than they are. A lot of it comes down to tricky camera angles, lighting, and various scales to achieve depth and create an interesting cinematic environment for the viewer."
WHOOP-Szo released Warrior Down back in November via You've Changed Records. The album made it on Exclaim!'s 10 Most Underrated Albums of 2019.
