Canadian six-piece rock troupe White Cowbell Oklahoma are set to celebrate 15 years together as a band by releasing Mixto Sixto today (March 16), and you can stream the brand new album right here at Exclaim! before you pick up a copy.
Marking the band's sixth release, White Cowbell Oklahoma wanted to put out a record that "showcases the road-honed latest lineup, sounding exactly the pulverizing way they sound live."
Half the album was recorded in the Netherlands, while the other was cut closer to home at Toronto's Ill Eagle studio with Carlin Nicholson (Zeus).
Across the six new tracks — are we sensing the theme here? — the band manage to run the gamut from classic rock'n'roll ("Kansas City Pity," "Keepin' Six [Take It Down to Mexico"]) to psychedelic proto-metal ("Keep It on the Rail") to good old-fashioned blues ("I'm Screamin' for It"). The record also pays homage to some of the greats, opening with a cover of Deep Purple's "Speed King" and closing out with Frank Zappa's "Magic Fingers."
The band will be touring across Europe this spring, but before they head overseas, you can catch them at a string of Canadian record release shows, which are listed below.
