Blink-182's Travis Barker played in Posty's backing band

It feels like world governments were woefully underprepared for the coronavirus pandemic, but we at least had two days to prepare ourselves for Post Malone's online Nirvana tribute concert, which took place last night. The full set is available to stream now.

Posty (decked out in his best floral dress in tribute to Kurt Cobain) was backed up by guitarist Nick Mack, bassist Brian Lee and, most notably, Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, himself no stranger to questionable covers in the age of COVID.

Over 80 minutes, the quartet delivered a 15-song set of Nirvana's best, including hits "Come as You Are,' "Lithium," "Heart-Shaped Box" and "About a Girl." The one notable omission? "Smells Like Teen Spirit," which was one of two Nevermind tracks omitted from the set list ("Polly" was the other one).

The concert doubled as a fundraiser for the United Nations Fountain's COVID-19 Solidarity Relief Fund. As of press time, the concert has raised over $2.7 million USD in donations. Google had pledged to donate twice the amount raised up to a maximum of $5 million USD, which has been reached.

Notable supporters of the tribute set included Cobain's widow, Courtney Love, who posted on Instagram about the event, and Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic, who tweeted, "Hello!!!!!! I love you all!!!! I am holding emotions back the whole show." So far, no word from Dave Grohl.

Malone also mentioned that he is working on a new album, and is "trying to put it out as soon as I fucking can." His latest record, Hollywood's Bleeding, was released last fall.

Watch the full livestream below, and keep scrolling for Love and Novoselic's reactions.
