Caroline Polachek's Desire, I Want to Turn Into You is one of our favourite albums of the rapidly ending year, and while the songwriting and production are major keys to the record's magic, it's Polachek's voice that consistently steals the show.
NPR's Tiny Desk is a great (and probably sometimes harrowing) place to show off your pipes totally stripped of effect, and Polachek's recent stop at the office doesn't disappoint. Performing "Pretty in Possible," "Blood and Butter," "Sunset" and "I Believe," Polachek's vocal acrobatics and control are on full display, and her hi-def songs sound surprisingly good in stripped-back folk form.
Never one to skip on a bit of theatrics, Polachek also keeps herself hydrated throughout the performance by sipping from a gold chalice, plastic water bottles be damned.
