It's been kind of a slow news week. The Sun thought they'd liven things up a bit by reporting that Taylor Swift — recently (apparently) out of her six-year relationship with actor Joe Alwyn, much to the dismay of mourning fans — and carnivorous exhibitionist and the 1975 frontman, Matty Healy, are "madly in love."
According to the British publication, the two musicians are "ready to go public" with their relationship in Nashville this weekend, where Swift will be performing as part of her Eras Tour.
"She and Matty are madly in love. It's super-early days, but it feels right," a source "close to Taylor" said. "They first dated, very briefly, almost ten years ago but timings just didn't work out."
Ah yes, that era. Shortly after the release of 1989 back in November 2014, Healy ignited the rumour mill by wearing a shirt with the album cover onstage in Milwaukee. Days later, Swift was spotted at the 1975's Los Angeles show with squad members Selena Gomez and Ellie Goulding — and then wore some of their merch, chopped into a muscle tee (again, it was 2014), while out and about in West Hollywood.
In January of this year, Swift made a guest appearance at the 1975's At Their Very Best concert, where she covered the band's "The City" and performed "Anti-Hero" live for the first time.
Rumours of Swift dating [insert famous guy here] are obviously not novel, which Swifties have been quick to point out — as well as the fact that The Sun also reported earlier this year that the pop star was going to release the yet-unannounced Speak Now (Taylor's Version) ahead of embarking on the Eras Tour. But Healy is certainly... British?
Very few seem to support this pairing, except when remembering that the 1975's George Daniel is dating Charli XCX and imagining the pop magic the four of them could concoct together. Another knife to the chest of many a Swiftie is the timing of this report circulating just after Karlie Kloss (Swift's former gal pal in what Gaylor stans hope to be every sense of the term) debuted her baby bump at the Met Gala.
