Teenanger

Garrison, Toronto ON June 13

Although they've been a Toronto fixture for some time now, Teenanger's latest record, Frights, seems to have broken the band to a wider national audience, something that no doubt helped the quartet land a headlining slot at the Garrison. Backed by a DIY light show, the swirling images projected onto the white sheet behind them provided the perfect backdrop to the group's psychedelic-tinged garage rock, hitting a particular high during the heavy groove of "Cops But Not." The soundman was also on point, allowing for the crowd to both see and hear the complexities of Teenanger's deceivingly simple tunes. Frontman Chris Swimming more or less ignored the crowd throughout the band's set, instead producing nasally sneers overtop his bandmates' sonic assault.
