Spotify Is Testing a "Karaoke" Feature

Vocal volume control could make sing-alongs that much easier

While singing may not spread COVID-19 more than speaking, it's still pretty risky to get up on stage at the karaoke to belt out your favourites. That's where Spotify is banking that a potential in-app feature will help stifled karaoke stars without a venue.

As Music Business Worldwide points out, reverse engineer Jane Manchun Wong shared her findings on Twitter earlier this month, showing screenshots that suggest an in-app "karaoke" feature will allow users to adjust the vocal level of the song with a control in the lower lefthand corner of the screen.
While Spotify have yet to confirm the feature themselves, Manchun Wong had previously uncovered early tests of in-app features including video podcasts and virtual concerts.

MBW adds that news of the feature surfaces not long after livestreaming platform Twitch announced it would be closing its karaoke app, Twitch Sings, in January 2021.
