Teenaged Toronto quartet Spiral Beach’s combination of talent, charm and youthfulness made this a must-see showcase for dozens of jaded industry delegates, many of them old enough to be the band members’ parents. Combined with the group’s legion of seemingly underage fans, the typically vacuous venue was comfortably packed for this playful, high energy set of tight, catchy and cleverly arranged pop tunes rife with old wave nuances and served up with confidence to spare. Despite the oddly matching Brady Bunch hair of the quartet’s three bright-eyed boys (only two of whom share genetic material) there’s way more substance to this act than any Hot Hot Hanson jabs might suggest.
