Snoop Dogg

Doggumentary

It's been quite some time since big Snoop Dogg has been mentioned as one of rap's hottest artists, and things aren't going to change with his latest release, Doggumentary. Sure, he's a cool guy and everybody from your boy to your grandmother gets a grin from ear to ear when you mention Snoop. However, all of the Ellen guest spots, getting "slimed" at the Kids' Choice Awards and swapping recipes with Posh and Becks have definitely diluted what he used to do best: rap. There's nothing wrong with Snoop parlaying his mic skills into a multi-million dollar Snoop brand. Fo shizzle! There's just something that doesn't seem right about pandering to soccer moms in Middle America while still claiming Crip status. The album falls flat despite a typical Snoop-style plethora of guests, ranging from Kanye, R. Kelly, T-Pain to Willie Nelson, and production from the likes of Battlecat, Scott Storch and young gun Lex Luger, who is definitely getting a lot mileage out of that beat he made. If you are jonesing for some Snoop, do yourself a favour and pop in Doggystyle. Ahh, now isn't that better?
