Sinéad O'Connor has returned with a timely cover of "Trouble of the World," the traditional song best known for the version sung by civil rights activist and gospel singer Mahalia Jackson.

O'Connor's David Holmes-produced version arrives alongside a stark music video directed by Don Letts, which sees the artist amid protests against racial injustice, wearing a Black Lives Matter shirt.

All proceeds from the track will go toward a central fund that reaches state and local BLM chapters, "a cause close to Sinead's heart and the raison d'être for the song being released."

According to a press release, the rework "bears more relevance than ever today in the wake of the death of George Floyd and highlights the persistent racist undercurrents across the globe."

The song arrives through Heavenly Records today. "Trouble of the World" marks O'Connor's first solo release since 2014.
