It's been a rocky few years for Sinéad O'Connor, who has been a fighting a very public battle with mental illness. Now, the Irish singer has unveiled new music under a new name, as she just released a song as Magda Davitt.
The new song is called "Milestones" and it was produced by Northern Irish electronic producer David Holmes. The track is an aching ballad featuring fragile vocals against a minimal backdrop of purring synth chords. Holmes wrote the music, while Davitt/O'Connor penned the lyrics.
This is just a demo, but we may hear a finished version on the singer's next album. She's working on a full-length called No Mud No Lotus, which will reportedly feature an array of collaborators. The album will apparently come out under the full name Sinéad O'Connor as Magda Davitt next year.
"Milestones" is exclusive to the Irish Sun. Listen to it here.
O'Connor announced last year that she would legally be changing her name to Magda Davitt. In a since-deleted Facebook post, she wrote, "I no longer want the patriarchal name. The name I have chosen is beautiful and suits me much better."
