Jack White is a card-carrying Big Sugar fan, having called 1993's 500 Pounds "the best blues-based record ever to come out of Canada" while reissuing it through Third Man Records. Now, 30 years since White became a fan of the Canadian group, he has hung out with Big Sugar leader Gordie Johnson.
Third Man's Instagram shared a photo of the two artists, writing that they met backstage at the Black Crowes' show at Nashville's Grand Ole Opry House. (White's wife Olivia Jean opened the show.)
The post notes that the pair discussed their mutual love of Detroit broadcaster Nat Morris. White attended a Big Sugar show 30 years ago, but he had never previously met Johnson personally.
The post also notes that Third Man's reissue of 500 Pounds is currently sold out, but that a second pressing is currently on rush order.
