Hot off the heels of the release of the long-delayed Silkworm documentary Couldn't You Wait? The Story of Silkworm comes news that the American indie act's 1994 LP Libertine is being treated to an expanded reissue. The deluxe edition drops as double-LP and two-CD sets through Comedy Minus One sometime this fall.
A press release from the label explains that the band's third LP, and their last as a quartet featuring Joel RL Phelps, has been remastered using the original 1/2-inch tapes by Bob Weston at Chicago Mastering Service. The LP was originally engineered by Steve Albini, who had previously said of Libertine, "Very few bands make even one great album. Silkworm made several, and this is the first."
You can sample a live version of "Grotto of Miracles" in the player down below, as well as "Couldn't You Wait?"
On top of the original 11-song outing, the expanded edition includes alternate takes and bonus tracks dubbed "The Marco Collins Sessions," and two more songs recorded at Pachyderm Studio in Cannon Falls, MN. These songs won't be on the standard vinyl edition, but the LP set comes packaged with the bonus CD.
Pre-orders are being taken now until June 11 over here. Depending on your preferences and pocketbooks, Comedy Minus One are offering a few different pre-order packages, which include a standard set, one that comes with a T-shirt, and a deluxe version with a bonus 12-inch featuring the "Marco Collins Sessions," a zip of over two hours of rarities and a photo taken by Mike Hoffman Jr. during the same shoot that yielded the new album cover.
The reissue also features new artwork, a revamped cover, photographs and liner notes from the band's Tim Midgett.
