Robert Pattinson to Star in Biopic About the Band

Levon Helm passed away a little more than a month ago (on April 19), and now we've learned that the roots rock legend will be immortalized with a new biopic about his legendary group the Band. In news that's sure to thrill vampire-obsessed teens everywhere -- and perhaps make a whole lot of music fans groan in defeat -- Twilight star Robert Pattinson has revealed that he's involved in the project.

The actor told French magazine Les Inrockuptibles [via NME], "I'm going to do a movie about the Band, the one that played with Dylan: a beautiful script about the nature of songwriting."

That's currently all the information we have, so we don't know which role Pattinson will play, although can't you just imagine him as Robbie Robertson looking like this? It's also not clear what era will be covered in the film. In any case, it will be interesting to see how the younger generation responds to the sounds of classic Canadian rock.

Pattinson is quickly becoming familiar to Canadian music fans, since he's also starring in David Cronenberg's Cosmopolis, which includes original music from Metric and K'naan.
