Red Sparowes Return with New Album, North American Tour

BY Josiah HughesPublished Mar 9, 2010

After seven years, Los Angeles-based post-rock quintet Red Sparowes have spent a long time honing their sound. The group, which feature members of Isis, Angel Hair and Pleasure Forever, have built a name for their slow-burning, heavy soundscapes. Now, they'll do the same again on their third full-length.

The album is called The Fear Is Excruciating, But Therein Lies the Answer, and sees Red Sparowes unleash another batch of eight rumbling numbers. Lending a hand, the record was recorded with Melvins engineer Toshi Kasai.

According to a press release, the album will feature a newfound sense of dynamics, saying that "they now temper their monolithic progressions with distinct passages of separated and soft-spoken instrumentation. Red Sparowes were suspiciously absent from the playing field over the last three years, and now it's apparent that they were busy drafting the grandest statement and finest achievement of their existence."

The Fear Is Excruciating will be released by Sargent House on April 6. It will be preceded and followed by a large North American tour that includes Canadian stops in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver. Many of those dates will be joined by openers such as Doomriders, Caspian and Fang Island.

The Fear Is Excruciating, But Therein Lies the Answer:

1. "Truths Arise"
2. "In Illusions of Order"
3. "A Hail of Bombs"
4. "Giving Birth to Imagined Saviors"
