Quebec City-raised singer-songwriter Gabrielle Shonk returns with her long-awaited sophomore album, previewed by new single "People Pleaser."

Across the Room arrives on February 24 through Arts & Crafts. It follows Shonk's self-titled debut album, released back in 2017.

Splitting time around rural Quebec and Montreal with producer Jesse Mac Cormack, recording the album during the first half of 2022 allowed Shonk to find her way back to herself years after making her major label debut. "I found my creative groove," she said in a statement. "I felt so much more grounded, independent and confident in my own capacities as an artist, musician and songwriter, and stopped blocking and judging my creative flow, which gave me my best work yet."

Across the Room features previously released singles "How We Used to Be" — co-written by frequent collaborator Jessy Caron (Men I Trust) — and "Aftertaste." Latest cut "People Pleaser" is a pristine example of the way Shonk is relinquishing internal pressure to meet external expectations. "I'm done feeling guilty, it's annoying as fuck / It's counterproductive, doesn't help me show up," she sings atop a jaunty, burnished guitar groove and organic percussion that makes putting yourself first sound like the absolute triumph that it is.
