Celebrating their 10-year anniversary, Cape Breton folk five-piece Pretty Archie have released a new self-titled album, and today, you can listen to it in full here at Exclaim!, courtesy of Curve Music/Warner.
On their sixth album, the quintet deliver nine tracks that blend folk, alt-country, Americana, bluegrass and all the flavours between. Recorded live off the floor from lakeside sessions at a Cape Breton A-frame cottage, Pretty Archie was produced by Mark Howard (Bob Dylan, the Tragically Hip, Willie Nelson) with minimal overdubs in an effort to preserve a "certain ambiance."
"We were in the house for two weeks, basically doing a song a day, and we did evening sessions that had a cooler relaxed feel," explained bandleader Brian Cathcart. "It is more focused, even though you still can't quite put a finger on it. For us, it definitely has way more of a country vibe."
As the East-Coasters reflect on their decade as a band, it's clear they're as confident in their sound as they'll ever be.
"I feel each of our other records was a step ahead of the previous one, but this one is six steps ahead," bassist/vocalist/songwriter Colin Gillis added in a statement. "We are proud of everything we've put out, but this is at a different level."
Alongside the record's release today, the band have also shared a new video for album cut "Familiar Feeling." Watch the video below, where you can also stream the entirety of Pretty Archie.
