Having four sets of hands play drums at once with only five musicians on stage may sound complicated, and it is. But Pick a Piper are a band that plans. Their entirely danceable CMW show combined spooky psychedelia and fanfare undertones with the instrumental complexity that had people crammed into every nook of Rancho Relaxo to watch rock adopt a smart, electro mentality. Singer Clint Scrivener switched instruments like a madman, all the while storing a guitar pick in his mouth and keeping up the illusion that all of this was easy. His closing song shriek was a little off putting, but the trombone was a nice touch.
