Paint it Black's latest EP, Invisible, does a brilliant job of summarizing the various tenants of punk culture: all the songs have a message, although you're not entirely sure what that is, while the band's players show they can maintain a rhythm, yet seem to hate that very fact, doing everything in their power to be as abrasive on the ears as possible. Although Paint it Black are often referred to as melodic hardcore, Invisible is rather light on the melody and very heavy on the up-tempo. The whole EP lasts no longer than ten minutes, with the shortest song clocking in at 34 seconds; ironically, it's also the catchiest. The titular closing number is the best full-length song on the EP and is reminiscent of the band's previous work. It's hard to accurately get a read for the future on ten minutes of music, but it's clear that Paint it Black intend to continue being as loud and fast as they've always been. Hopefully the next full release will have similar effects.
