Born in Toronto but reunited two years ago in a small town in the Netherlands, Jake Fairley and Jim Sayce are Bishop Morocco, whose mix of groovy, reverb-drenched guitar and disaffected baritone vocals sadly don't translate well to the stage. It wasn't the band's material that was lacking, but their stage presence: the group seemed tense, playing along to a pre-recorded drum machine. And despite performing to a packed room, they seemed unable to elicit any real reaction from the Drake Hotel crowd. The fact that even the group's biggest single, "Last Year's Disco Guitars," failed to create a spark only served to underline Bishop Morocco's desperate need for a drummer to punctuate their live performance.
