Norah Jones

Live In Austin, Texas

BY Jason SchneiderPublished Sep 26, 2008

Apart from her immense musical talent, much of Norah Jones’s success lies in how she can immediately make every performance an intimate occasion. This second appearance on Austin City Limits from June 2007 shows her even more at ease in front of a reverent audience, as she and her trio run through a wide selection of material from her three albums. While most artists are still finding themselves at this stage in their careers, this set shows instead how quickly Jones has matured from the jazzy chanteuse of "Come Away With Me” to the Southern soul belle of "Thinking About You” and "Be My Somebody.” The inclusion of the politically charged "My Dear Country” also highlights her effortless versatility but long-time fans will probably most appreciate a guest appearance by M. Ward on three tracks, including Willie Nelson’s "Hands On The Wheel” and Roy Orbison’s "Blue Bayou.” She may be the most understated superstar in the world but as this performance proves, Norah Jones doesn’t need to change a thing about herself.
