No, Kanye West Did Not Drop 'Donda 2' at Midnight

The follow-up record is not yet available on his $200 Stem Player, for those keeping score at home

If you were hesitant to fork over the $200 USD for the Stem Player, a.k.a. the sole host of the mythic Donda 2, fear not: the artist formerly known as Kanye West didn't actually release the album at midnight.

"Donda 2 will only be available on my own platform, the Stem Player," the rapper wrote in an Instagram post last week. "Not on Apple, Amazon, Spotify or YouTube. Today artists get just 12% of the money the industry makes. It's time to free music from this oppressive system. It's time to take control and build our own."

However, the follow-up to last year's Donda remains an enigma, and fans that invested in the Stem Player remain out a chunk of change for nothing — so far, anyway.

Donda 2 is supposed to be released today and many remain hopeful that it will hit the Stem Player at some point before tomorrow, or at least in the semi-near future. And since there's an accompanying "Donda Experience Performance" scheduled to take place at LoanDepot Park in Miami, FL, tonight... well, we'll see.

Executive-produced by Future, Ye has reportedly also been working extensively with accused rapist Marilyn Manson on the album. Last month, West teamed up with the Game to drop "Eazy" — and his promise to "beat Pete Davidson's ass," which may or may not make the final cut of the tracklist.

See some of Twitter's reactions to the almost-but-not-quite release below.

It's a minor miracle that Netflix's jeen-yuhs documentary made it off the cutting room floor, since Ye didn't get a final edit after demanding editorial approval.
