Kanye West Says New Album 'Donda 2' Can Only Be Heard Via His Stem Player

"Not on Apple, Amazon, Spotify or YouTube ... It's time to free music from this oppressive system"

Ahead of delivering Donda last year, the artist formerly known as Kanye West launched a new device dubbed the Stem Player, allowing users to "customize any song." Now, the unit is said to be the only way West's faithful will be able to hear forthcoming new album Donda 2.

Ye shared the news via Instagram late yesterday (February 17), alongside video of a Stem Player in action. "Donda 2 will only be available on my own platform, the Stem Player," he wrote. "Not on Apple, Amazon, Spotify or YouTube. Today artists get just 12% of the money the industry makes. It's time to free music from this oppressive system. It's time to take control and build our own."

The Stem Player, which costs $200 USD, uses haptic technology to allow control of the vocal, drum, bass and sample tracks in West's compositions, allowing the user to "isolate parts," "add effects," or "split any song into stems."

Ye shared in a subsequent Instagram post:

I feel that same feeling like when I first moved to New York to make it in Music. I ain't know what was gonna happen but I knew had to move. After 10 albums after being under 10 contracts. I turned down a hundred million dollar Apple deal. No one can pay me to be disrespected. We set our own price for our art. Tech companies made music practically free so if you don't do merch sneakers and tours you don't eat. Jay Z made Tidal and fake media attacked him. Well in the words of my big brother. Come and get me. I'm willing to die standing cause I ain't living on my knees no more. God please cover me.

Donda 2, said to be executive produced by Future, is expected to see release on February 22. As you'll also find below, Ye continues to tinker with a tracklist for the release.

On the day of Donda 2's release, an accompanying "Donda Experience Performance" will take place at LoanDepot Park in Miami, FL. Ye's 2021 Donda rollout saw that album adapted, amended and ultimately completed over the course of three stadium-sized listening events, held in Atlanta and his native Chicago.

After announcing Donda 2, Ye shared that Marilyn Manson is involved with the new LP, and has lately been posting about perceived slights from Billie Eilish and ex-wife Kim Kardashian West's reported relationship with Pete Davidson — an extension of the ass-beating Ye promised the comedian on a new single with the Game in January.

Ye's early career was recently explored in Netflix documentary jeen-yuhs.
